Overview: Support a public school district with critical communications projects

Location: North Austin, with significant local travel

Compensation: $50 - $60k/yr, depending on experience

Hours/Duration: Full-time but flexible business hours, with significant evenings and local travel, ongoing duration

Liaison Creative + Marketing is recruiting for a full-time ongoing opportunity within our north Austin Public Relations Agency client, a 25-year local leader in public sector communications. As the new Communications Project Manager, you will work with a team including other PR Project Managers, PR Assistants, Events Planners and support personnel to serve the Agency's growing base of clients in Austin. This role is specifically designed to support a large Central Texas school district client. Working with experienced project team members, you will help our client foster strong organizational communications across the organization. The client will rely on you and your team for planning and execution for strategic communications to enhance the organization's capacity to meet its mission.

  • Support client communications specifically for public K-12 education
  • Other clients and potential projects will involve client firms in urban planning, engineering, architecture, public sector, nonprofit, higher education, construction, and others
  • Support meeting planning and execution including agenda development, logistical planning, facilitation, and capturing meeting notes
  • Conduct communications planning and developing key messages while translating complex technical language into plain language and/or engaging visuals
  • Use creativity and cohesiveness in communications strategies
  • Develop trusted, advisor relationships with our clients and demonstrating creativity and competence to hone each message for clients

How to be a top candidate for this job:

  • Your resume shows 5 + years of K-12 organizations interface experience, or 5 years public sector municipal or county interface, with an engineering, urban planning, architectural, consulting or marketing firm
  • Demonstrated experience working in a small, nimble company with an entrepreneurial environment emphasizing professional growth while serving the a mission-driven client
  • Demonstrated experience in performing functions listed above (be sure your cover letter addresses anything not obvious in your resume)
  • This role interacts extensively with Public School professionals, so will require some work during evenings when those stake-holders are available and community events take place. The core team tends to keep flexible hours during the workday and requires usually about 2 days a week in the north Austin office, but will need someone with reliable transportation to attend events around Austin during business days and some evenings. Significant work-from-home during regular work hours

  • Exceptional skill in conducting and facilitating equity-conscious conversations with a diverse set of stake-holders (coursework and certifications a plus and may include: Leadership Austin, Task Force on Equity and Inclusion, Restorative Practices, Volunteer work in multicultural and equity-focused organizations, Beyond Diversity, Courageous Conversations Around Race, Non-violent Communications,
  • Crucial Conversations, TOP Facilitation Training)
  • Strong formal, written communications including creation of technical writing, editing, staff features, briefings
  • Skill in improving quality, efficiency, and effectiveness by which client program information is shared and communicated
  • Ability to listen to clients' challenges and proactively help them solve problems and follow through on actions
  • Strong project management skills including: Leadership, Negotiation, Scheduling, Cost Control, Risk Management, Contract Management, Critical Thinking, and Interpersonal Communications
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to support multiple activities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to quickly learn a new technical subject and distill important information
  • Ability to influence progress and achieve goals in environments where client presence and sponsorship of individual work tasks varies significantly
  • Strong skills in the Mac environment as well as Microsoft Office Suite - specifically, in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
